A photograph taken on March 14, 2024 shows two clocks, one indicating the British time and second the French time, aboard of the Hybrid Ferry ship P&O Liberte, docked in the port of Dover, southern England. P&O Liberte and its sister ship Pioneer will be able to accommodate up to 15,000 passengers and 800 lane metres for cars. The new ferries will incorporate electric battery technology, reducing emissions and minimising environmental impact. To recharge the batteries efficiently, Calais and Dover terminals will have to be equipped with giant 40-megawatt charging stations. Calais, will benefit from being close to a nuclear power station, whilst for Dover, work will required to create high voltage lines to enable full use to be made of electric ferries.
