Take a look inside this historic Italian lakeside home, which is now up for sale. Situated by Lake Como, this stunning home was considered one of the most expensive in the whole of Europe. It boasts famous neighbors such as George Clooney and was a popular destination for titans of history like Napoleon Bonaparte and Winston Churchill. It was recently listed for $114.75 million but after struggling to sell it us now up for auction with a reserve price of just $23million. It is due to go under the hammer with Concierge Auctions on October 30. Built on land owned by Pope Innocent XI, it was Count Andrea Luccini-Passalacqua who commissioned the current stately manor to be built by Swiss architect Felice Soave and designer Giocondo Albertolli in the early 1800s. The nine-bedroom main house also comes with a separate six-bedroom villa plus manicured gardens with 11 working fountains, a swimming pool, direct lakefront access and a 200-year-old greenhouse. Beneath the main house are 11,000 square feet of catacombs and tunnels that provide a secret route to the private marina and Lake Como. The property is recognized as a national monument of Italy and has all the authorizations in order to be bought by a private owner for his/her own personal use. It also has a history of being a luxury destination for weddings or corporate events. The home, known as Villa Passalacqua, is currently owned by banker James Cantrell. Charlie Smith, European adviser for Concierge Auctions, said: "This auction is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to purchase a piece of history. The villa is one of the most significant private houses in the most sought-after part of Lake Como.". 10 Oct 2018 Pictured: Villa Passalacqua.
