Stunning actress Maggie Gyllenhaal and actor husband Peter Sarsgaard are selling their traditional Brooklyn townhouse for $4.599 million. The couple have decided to sell up because their daughters now attend school outside of the neighbourhood. She said:" The motivation for moving was to be able to walk the children to school." The couple purchased the 3,600-square-foot property in 2006 for $1.91 million. She said:" We moved there when I was pregnant with my first daughter. We had been living in a rented loft in Manhattan, and we were looking to make a home." The couple updated the property, including the heating and plumbing. Hiring architect Elizabeth Roberts, who had lived above their Manhattan loft, they added modern touches to the townhouse, such as large glass doors to take advantage of the home's southern exposure. Maggie added:" My husband is a knowledgeable and excellent gardener. One of the things he really wanted was the backyard to have a southern exposure, with direct sunlight." Over the years, Sarsgaard tended plants that include cherry trees and a lemon tree. The first floor holds a den and kitchen, with exposed wood beams. On the parlour floor, the couple installed a movie projector that drops from the ceiling. The third floor holds the master suite, with an en suite bathroom and office. The top floor holds two bedrooms with a shared workspace in between.
