Volunteers move bags of nonperishable food and supplies into a Belmont Council on Aging bus as part of distribution to senior citizens in need by the Belmont Food Pantry in Belmont, Massachusetts, on Sat., March 21, 2020. As part of the response to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, the Belmont Food Pantry arranged for curbside pickup to minimize person-to-person contact. Each pair of bags included a variety of nonperishable food, including some canned meats, and toilet paper and paper towels. The Food Pantry usually purchases food directly from grocers and food providers for distribution, but because of ongoing shortages, the Food Pantry received donations from the Greater Boston Food Bank in order to keep up with ongoing food distribution. For the senior citizens, the Pantry decided it was safer to bring food to those in need rather than ask them to pick it up as usual.
