Japanese traditional way to catch sweet fish using cormorants, Ukai, starts at the Nagara River in Gifu Prefecture on May 22, 2020, amid an outbreak of the new coronavirus COVID-19. Since the viewing boats were self-restrained, many people watched the 1,300 year-long traditional fishing of cormorants from the riverbank. Japan's government declared a nationwide state of emergency on April 16th to prevent the further spread due to the country's worsening coronavirus outbreak, and decided to extend that period to the end of May. Meanwhile, the Japanese government has analyzed the situation of infection and medical care system, and removed the state of emergency declaration in 39 prefectures except 8 prefectures such as Tokyo, Osaka, and Hokkaido on May 14th. Sunsecuently, Osaka, Hyogo, and Kyoto Prefecture were lifted on May 21th. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has requested people to avoid three Cs: Closed spaces, Crowded spaces and Close-contact settings. ( The Yomiuri Shimbun via AP Images )
