Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin is seen here in his mugshot photograph after he was arrested and charged for the murder of George Floyd. Chauvin, aged 44, was taken into custody on Friday (May 29) and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter following. The criminal complaint reveals Chauvin kept kneeling on Floyd?s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds and said ?you?re talking fine? when the 46-year-old black man begged for air. Chauvin?s bail was set at $500,000. Floyd died on Memorial Day (May 25) after he was arrested by four police officers for allegedly trying to buy cigarettes with a fake $20 bill. In a graphic video taken by a bystander, Floyd is heard begging to be released and saying he couldn?t breathe as Chauvin pressed him against the floor with he knee against his neck. Preliminary results fromFloyd?s autopsy reveal there were ?no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation? but the the combined effects of being pinned down by an officer along with his ?underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death?. The case has ignited nationwide riots and protests. 30 May 2020 Pictured: Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin is seen here in his mugshot photograph after he was arrested and charged for the murder of George Floyd on May 29, 2020.
