Kangei Maru, Japanese new whaling ship, departs from Shimonoseki Port in Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture on May 21, 2024. The Kangei Maru was the first domestic whaling mothership built in 73 years, and is a total length of 112.6 meters, a gross tonnage of 9,299 tons, a cruising range of 13,000 kilometers, and can even reach the Southern Ocean. She has set up 40 refrigerated containers so that each part of the whale can be stored at the appropriate temperature, making it possible to provide high-quality whale meat to the whole country.
