An embarrassing moment was experienced, Oct. 28, 1956, by Tommy Kono of Honolulu, Hawaii, as he fell backwards during an attempt to lift 280 pounds in a U.S. Olympic meet in San Jose, Calif. Kono, in the light heavyweight class (181 and1/2 pounds) was unhurt. He was first in his division with a total lift of 940 pounds in three separate events.
