EXCLUSIVE: Just a month after a 74-year-old woman gave birth to twins through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) procedure in southern India, reports have emerged of another woman, 75, giving birth to a child in the country's northwestern Rajasthan state. The unidentified woman gave birth late on Saturday night at a hospital in Kota, doctors said. However, the child was moved to a newborn intensive care unit (NICU) of another hospital as the newborn was born preterm and weighed 600 grams (1.3 pounds). Moreover, doctors said the birth was a challenge as the woman had only one lung. Speaking about the case, Dr. Abhilasha Kinker, an IVF specialist at the Kinker Hospital in Kota, said the woman had earlier adopted a baby but wanted to have her own child. The doctor said the baby had to be delivered prematurely via C-section after six and a half months of pregnancy as the woman was physically weak. Dr. Kinker said she had discussed the complications of bearing a child so late with the women, however, she was adamant and went ahead with it. Earlier, in September, 73-year-old Eramati Mangamma became the oldest mother in the world after giving birth to twins via IVF at a hospital in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. 12 Oct 2019 Pictured: 75 year old woman gave birth to a preterm baby weighing 1.3 pounds through IVF in northwestern India.
