Between March 12 and March 31, 2020, the major index crime in New York City saw an overall 4.2% decrease when compared to the same period in 2019. In that two-week period, there was a 25% decrease in the number of murders with just 12 versus 16 this time last year; a 10% decrease in robberies (551 versus 612); and a 37% decrease in grand larcenies (1,334 v. 2,115). Interestingly there was a 100% drop in hate crimes against Asians with zero cases as opposed to three the same time last year. "In times of crisis, the men and women of the NYPD rise up and give their all for those they serve," said NYPD Police Commissioner Dermot Shea. Also down are rape and domestic violence incidents. 02 Apr 2020 Pictured: NYPD traffic officers in The Bronx on March 31st, 2020. Photo credit: MEGA TheMegaAgency.com +1 888 505 6342
