Between March 12 and March 31, 2020, the major index crime in New York City saw an overall 4.2% decrease when compared to the same period in 2019. In that two-week period, there was a 25% decrease in the number of murders with just 12 versus 16 this time last year; a 10% decrease in robberies (551 versus 612); and a 37% decrease in grand larcenies (1,334 v. 2,115). Interestingly there was a 100% drop in hate crimes against Asians with zero cases as opposed to three the same time last year.
