Ab dem fruhen Morgen war die Autobahn Athen-Lamia auf H?he von Kalyftaki Kifissia nach Lamia wegen schlechten Wetters durch das Tiefdruckgebiet Medea , geschlossen. Die Intensitat des Schneefalls war so stark, dass die Autobahn trotz der Bemuhungen der Schneeraummaschinen und der standig arbeitenden Salzstreuer geschlossen blieb. Schon in der Nacht waren Autos und Lastwagen auf den Parallelstrecken der Autobahn wegen eines Schneesturms steckengeblieben.
