dpatop - 13 April 2021, Brazil, Encantado: Detail of the statue of Christ the Protector under construction. The statue, conceived by artists Genesio Gomes Moura and Markus Moura, is to be 37 meters high, seven meters taller than the world-famous Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. "Building a taller statue is easy. I want to see the view, though," joked Rio Mayor Paes. To which Calvi, mayor of Encantado, replied that the world already knows Rio well enough, now it's time to admire the sights at Taquari Valley. Construction of the new statue began in 2019 on donated land. Photo: Lucas Amorelli/dpa
