NAPLES, ITALY - DECEMBER 16: A large sperm whale skeleton, surrounded by models of organisms that feed on the carcasses of these majestic giants on the sea floor on display at the Darwin and Dohrn Museum of Biodiversity (DaDoM), at the historic Villa Comunale in Naples, November 16, 2021. In Naples, in the historic Villa Comunale, the Darwin and Dohrn Biodiversity Museum (DaDoM), a scientific and cultural centre dedicated to the biodiversity of the "resource of the sea", has opened to the public. The museum is dedicated to the two giants of science and evolutionary biology, Charles Darwin and Anton Dohrn. The DaDoM working group worked for three years to complete the scientific design of the contents, routes and interior fittings that make the museum unique of its kind in Italy. Through paintings, sculptures, biological exhibits and historical instruments, the public will learn about the mechanisms that led to today's life forms, in a gallery of biodiversity, from the simplest to the most complex, and how marine organisms move, feed and reproduce in the oceans. The centrepiece of DaDoM is the multi-purpose hall which houses, among others, a large sperm whale skeleton, surrounded by models of organisms feeding on the carcasses of these majestic giants on the sea floor.
